Well hello friends!
I hope this post finds you all feeling splendiforous today as the weekend is finally upon us and combined with the weather that has yours truly feeling all kinds of awesome!
I'd like to take a moment to welcome 2 new followers to my little corner of the internet: justine love & Jewels. They both have great blogs of their own (click on their names/links to check them out!!!) and I'm pretty psyched that they decided to follow me.
So what's been happening this week you ask?
Well people continue to do weird stuff to their bodies - have you seen this article from ABC News yet? Apparently there's a new trend in body modification these days - elf ears. Take a minute and let that sink in if you need to. I'd have thought with all the very good fake options out there, the idea of actually permanently altering your own ears would be pretty low on the list of "Things To Do Today". Also, while it doesn't quite bother me like the idea of people who get their tongues split so they fork like a snake's (*shudder/ugh*), you gotta think that at 60+ this might not be a decision you reflect fondly on. At least the stretched out & faded tramp stamps can be easily hidden by your 2 piece sweater sets from Tan Jay - can't say that about elf ears!!!
In other news, last Sunday in Toronto there was a protest march that is worth mentioning for 2 reasons: 1) the Toronto Police Service & their "blame the victim" approach to rape & rape prevention needed to be brought to light & soundly rebuked and 2) the actual participants in SlutWalkTO while making their point also did it with a good show of humour and deserve to be applauded for taking a stand. I'm not a militant feminist or anything but it's inconceivable to me that in 2011, any law enforcement representative could ever say "women should avoid dressing like sluts in order to not be victimized." Gross misogyny to say the least. Head on over to The Buzz to see the 30 best sign from SlutWalkTO if you want a bit of a chuckle.
I'd love to go and have some drinks after work tonight but if that doesn't happen I may just have to fall back on my 2nd option - going to Canadian Tire to buy a pantry so I can stop using my cheap ass Ikea bookshelf to hold all my linens & towels. Nothing like a wild swing in direction & relative fun-ness eh? (The "eh" was a mandatory addition to that sentence btw. You can't mention Cdn Tire without injecting an "eh" in the following sentence without serious consquences north of the 49th parallel. Also, see what I did there??? LOL)

On a more local note, the weekend is here and plans need making!

Tomorrow should be another fun shopping day too - I need to find a dresser for my bedroom as I've decided it's officially un-sexy to continue having my TV sit on an upside down plastic storage box. And of course, I'd like to uh, put my clothes away more neatly than just shoving them in my walk-in closet...
I'll also be in mourning as my team, the Calgary Flames (who were officially eliminated from the NHL playoffs this past Thursday), will be playing their last game of the season on Saturday night. It's been quite the wild ride this year as they almost stank worse than the Oilers but then rose following Christmas to be a threat in the West & play meaningful games all the way to game 81 (of 82). I'll be cheering for anybody but the Canucks this spring....so while the playoffs are always a great time to be a hockey fan, it's a pretty bittersweet night all told.
What are all of you doing this weekend? Any exciting plans? Any movie recommendations?
